My mum has previously told me that I can not change my surname to my husband’s once I get married. However my husband is saying that is wrong and I must change my surname to his surname. He even brought local imam to our house and the imam told me that I’m sinning for not listening to my husband.Please tell me what is correct according to Islam. I haven’t done anything yet.Need clarification.

ANSWER: This is totally prohibited and one of the major sins in Islam! This imam is either an imposter or a total ignorant! Hold your grounds and do not change your name which your father gave to you!

I don’t want to take my husbands name after marriage since its prohibited in islam but according to the documentation it is necessary.kindly tell me if my husbands name apper after me due to worldy rule will i be sinful and how to avoid this

Sheikh, my parents have chosen for me a life partner who works in a bank which is against Islamic Sharia and haraam earnings.I don’t want to get married whose earnings are not halal but my mother doesn’t want to accept it & constantly ordering me to agree, even she is getting angry with me & stop talking to me. because I don’t except it, what should I do in this situation? bcz i m disobeying her

ANSWER: You must not accept this proposal at all. However, you must be diplomatic, respectful and humble with your parents in all situations while not compromising on the rulings of Islam.

Can we do nikah in front of our parents only the bride and her parents and groom and his parents and not tell anyone else in family. Can we marry the person again in front of the whole family ? So that they dont feel offended to not witness the nikah ( without telling them its the 2nd time doing nikah )

ANSWER: Why would you want to do this! You must declare the marriage so that everyone knows you both are legally married. You can throw a party or walima later on and invite everyone. Repeating the marriage contract is not permissible.

The guy I wanna marry is doing masters and unemployed for now.His parents told him to study for jobs and until he finds a job they are willing to take my responsibility.I am pleased with the guy’s deen and character.But My father wants to marry me to a weathy family and he doesn’t consider deen in any proposals.Advice me sheikh.

I heard a shaikh saying that umar ra said to someone he knows that he should be atleast be with his wife the fourth day. The other three days before he is praying and islamic things but he should atleast be with his wife the fourth day. Is this correct. If so where is the hadith? Or a ijtihad

ANSWER: This is not a hadith. There is no specific time mentioned in the Quran or the sunnah for intimacy between husband and wife.

Is exchanging engagment rings haram ? can we not wear a ring nd dedicate it to a person?

Sir, I wanted to marry a girl in my Locality and the girl was also interested in marrying me . However her parents rejected the marriage proposal and the reason was that they belong to shah caste and they don’t marry their daughters outside their own caste. They say they are the descendants of Prophet Muhammad (P B U H). Is this reason justified and whats your suggestion for me as I am heartbroken

ANSWER: This is not a valid reason to reject a proposal as there’s no caste system in Islam! Nevertheless, this is the decision of the father who is her guardian.

During nikah, is it sufficient to put the guests in one hall but the females are in the right side and the males are in the left side? Next, considering that some of my family members dont abide by hijab, can I require them to wear hijab just during the occasion and wear modest clothing?

ANSWER: This is not permissible at all. The gathering must be segregated.

Sir in india when a women is about to deliver child,her husband sends her to her parents for delivery and he doesn’t pay for anything,all the hospital and delivery expenses should be paid by her parents,if they dnt then they force them by threats of divorce and says its their responsibility as its cultural ,plz tell me isnt it the responsibility of a man to pay for his childs birth and delivery

ANSWER: This is totally prohibited as this is the responsibility of the child’s father. Her parents shouldn’t pay anything. However, it is unfortunate that many husbands in India are not real men!
