QUESTION: A sisters asks is it permissable to purposely allow her child to suckle from her sister (baby’s aunty) in order to make the baby mahram with her own cousins (aunty’s children) and uncle (aunty’s husband)

ANSWER: If the child is below 2 years of age and he or she suckles 5 or more meals, this is permissible and it makes him/her a child of that woman whether she is your sister or any other woman.

QUESTION: I am planning to go for hajj inshaAllah with my husband leaving my 5 month old son with my parents back home. Somebody told me my hajj won’t be valid since i am taking away my son’s right to being breastfed, though my son drinks formula milk as well.Will my hajj be accepted?

ANSWER: What they had said is totally baseless and fabricated and one of the major sins in Islam for talking about Allah like this without knowledge ! This has no impact on your hajj whatsoever!

QUESTION: My son is 2 years old now….am still breastfeeding him..our doctor suggested us not to stop all of a sudden….some says, it is only allowed to breastfeed upto 2 years according to Islam and should not exceed that ..is that true??

ANSWER: No problem in breastfeeding for 2 and a half years (hijri calendar), you should not go beyond that.

My maternal aunt breastfed me for more than 2 years. Will her husband and son be my mahram? And also will her daughter’s children be my mahram?

ANSWER: If she breastfed you before you were two years of age 5 or more full meals, she is your mother and her husband is your father and her children are your siblings.

Sheik if a woman did not make up her missed fast before next Ramadan, what should she do? Should she feed 1 miskeen and fast?

ANSWER: If she didn’t make them up until the following Ramadan was due without a legitimate reason, she is sinful for that. She cannot give fidya for such missed fasts as she needs to make them up whenever it is possible for her.

My 9 months old baby is formula fed.I cudnt nurse.every1 thinks hes mix fed.if i admit they look at me like m giving him poison and that its not good for him.i know this is from Allah and m ok with it but whenever someone bashes me for this,i feel am a unfit mom & I go into depression.Can i lie in this case for my mental peace?

ANSWER: Lying is not permissible in Islam. Do not pay any attention to what they say and don’t tell anyone that you don’t nurse!

Do I have to redo my wudhu after every time I breastfeed my child? Also will my husband have to redo the wudhu if he sees my breastfeeding and a part of my awrah is visible?

ANSWER: 1. No your wudu is not broken because of breastfeeding. 2. Your husband’s wudu is not broken. Looking at someone’s awrah doesn’t break your wudu.

My sister is breastfeeding her 2 week old son. Since she is getting too much milk she is using a pump also to avoid engorgement a d pain, can she give the pumped breast milk to her 4 year old daughter in a cup?

ANSWER: No. Maximum age for breastfeeding is only 2.5 years. She should throw it away.

Due to some issues with my breast I was unable to feed my baby everyone in our family was talking ill about me as I was unable to،I was really hurt then and even now when we happen to have a family me they keep saying if as if I has committed a sin.And I badly wanted to know y was Prophet Muhammad (saw) breastfed by another mother instead of his own.جزاك الله خيرا

ANSWER: Not breastfeeding your baby is not sinful. Let these people talk, do not pay any attention to their negative comments as they’re talking without knowledge.

Can you please tell us in the light of Al Quran and Sunnah that can a mother feed her child her milk who is getting older than 2 years and not willing to be bottle fed. For example if the child is given bottle milk he does not drink it all no matter how hard the mother tries.
