QUESTION: If there is a newborn baby in a house, is it required in Islam for someone to touch fire or come into contact with fire before entering the house, so that Satan cannot harm the newborn? I would like to know the answer based on the Qur’an and authentic (Sahih) Hadith.

ANSWER: This is shirk and not from Islam

QUESTION: My father is a Sufi who does spiritual healing (_dam_) and gives amulets (_ta’weez_) using words that ask for help from spiritual elders. He also does numerology for homes, businesses, and past/future events. I believe these practices are incorrect. He doesn’t charge, but disciples voluntarily give him money. Is it _halal_ to eat food bought with that money?

ANSWER: Your father is committing shirk and he is not Muslim. However, whatever food he gets, this is halal for you to eat from and the sins are on him.

ANSWER: If they made the vow by taking Alhusain’s name then its shirk and its not a valid vow, hence there’s no expiation. They must sincerely repent to Allah while showing deep remorse for this shirk and renew their shahadah

QUESTION: In my country many people when theu built new homes, they slaughter an animal and throw the blood to the house foundations and the likes so this home will have barakah from Allah but not intending it for the jinn and evil stuff. ANSWER: This is a form of shirk, minor or major depending on their intention. There is no problem on you living in that house.

QUESTION: If the person I’m talking to starts talking about fortune telling, and I don’t interrupt them so as not to seem rude, and then at the end I simply say that it’s all nonsense and I don’t believe in such things, does this fall under the hadith about those who go to fortune tellers?
