Dear Sheikh I want to ask as my sister’s nikah has been done and now it’s time of Rukhsati (Departure) before that everything was too simple & there was no invitation (DAWAT) to anyone so I want to ask what is ruling in this ocassion can we invite relatives for Dawat(feast)

Sheikh, after nikah can we do walima and function of nikah ( in which bride leaves the house of her parents) on the same day or is it necessary to fulfill the requirements to fo walima ?

ANSWER: No problem, you can do walima right after nikah.

sheikh, I live in a place in Southern india. which is completely occupied by muslims, every street has a masjid and a madrasa. But for almost 300 years there is a custom here that after marriage that husband moves in to the wife place and lives with her in his in laws’ home. only this year scholars r opposing this custom but our people are refusing.i m abt to get married.pladvice

ANSWER: Approach her wali and ask her hand in marriage. You can ask your mother or sister to communicate with her for information.

My sister is 20 years old and is currently studying engineering.She wants to get married as early as possible but some of her relatives are brainwashing her parents to make her do a job. She is strict upon islamic principles and doesn’t want to go for this option. She isn’t comfortable talking about marriage with her parents. Please help.

ANSWER: She must talk to her mother to convince her father that there are many temptations around her and she doesn’t want to fall into sin or disgrace the family.

Is it allowed in Islam for two people to get married as in do the Nikkah but not the Sending off of the girl and she stays with her parents for about a year or two? Also during the period between Nikkah and Rukhsati is the husband supposed to be providing for her or parents can provide? Can they treat each other completely as husband/wife or are there any limitations?

ANSWER: This is permissible however, the husband is not obliged to provide for her until she starts living with him. They should not have intercourse either, unless her father approves it, as she is still in his house and people know that they have not consummated the marriage yet.

Is it permissable for a woman to tell a man she is considering for marriage what her hair colour is and whether hair is straight or curly? what are the conditions. of this.if it is not allowed to say without presence of mahram please can you give the evidence for this so I can pass it on to the brother.
