Shaykh in Islam what is the ruling on marrying first cousins or relatives? Is it encouraged or discouraged? You see in our communities it is seen as being a bit “odd” and so people kind of look down on you if you do that. I don’t want to go against Islam as I know many early marriages were to cousins.

This is neither encouraged neither discouraged rather this is permissible. Zainab, may Allah be pleased with her was the first cousin of the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam. Ali was the cousin of our Prophet and he married his daughter Fatimah may Allah be pleased with them.

In-sha-Allah within a few months I will be getting married. I would like to know if a kuthba and dua is to be delivered before the Nikha, because this is the usual practice in my place.

This is not from the sunnah but if it takes place without any planning, such Duaa is ok in sha Allah.

Sheikh I’m getting married in 2 and a half weeks. My fiancé’s grandfather died 4 days ago. I know that mourning in Islam is only 3 days, would it be appropriate to continue with the Nikah? We had planned a segregated ceremony in a hall where food would be served. Should it be toned down – Nikah in the Masjid? My parents may lose the deposit on the hall.

There is no problem in continuing with the marriage ceremony! May ALlah have mercy on his soul.

Sheikh, I have a question which I really need your answer and advise… I’ve received a marriage proposal, the guy is religious but he requested I take my niqab off and just wear normal headscarf and abaya. Please advise me and give me your opinion of what I should do, please!

If you are a practicing woman and believe in the obligation of the niqab, there is no compromise! People move forward in islam and not backwards!

I feel my husband is cheating on me. He is not ready to admit it. He told me a lie and spent a night somewhere else. Should I spy and find out the real truth or leave it to Allah?

Spying is not permissible and by keeping him under pressure, he will continue to lie and avoid being with you. Don’t let whispers and doubts destroy your marriage.
