Can we do nikah in front of our parents only the bride and her parents and groom and his parents and not tell anyone else in family. Can we marry the person again in front of the whole family ? So that they dont feel offended to not witness the nikah ( without telling them its the 2nd time doing nikah )

ANSWER: Why would you want to do this! You must declare the marriage so that everyone knows you both are legally married. You can throw a party or walima later on and invite everyone. Repeating the marriage contract is not permissible.

I’ve seen people to sign their wedding contracts or do nikah in masjids where the imam and other Muslimeen sit and pray for the newly wed. Is this from the sunnah? If it’s not a sunnah and if there’s nothing mentioned about it in the sunnah, where would you recommend us to sign our wedding contracts or do nikah?

ANSWER: This is not from the sunnah but it is permissible. Nikah can be done anywhere, there’s no prescribed place for this. It must be segregated and women must not mix with men and there must be no music.

Is it permissible for a girl to state a condition that her husband-to-be would not marry another woman in her nikah contract?

ANSWER: This is permissible. It’s the choice of the guy to accept such a condition or not.

Is marriage done on an actual contract where we need to sign or can we avoid this and just do it verbally? Also does it need to be registered with the law of the country?

ANSWER: In marriages, there are many people who are cheaters and don’t fear Allah. Therefore, to protect all parties, such a contract must be registered and legal. Doing it verbally only causes a lot of problems in the future.

In India, people have started a new tradition. When the Imam recites/reads the NIKAH contract of the couple, he does not mention the amount the MAHR (DOWRY). Is NIKAH (marriage contract) valid? Because earlier, the person reciting/reading the NIKAH used to mention the dowry amount like fr SR 5000/-, this marriage contract has been done.

ANSWER: It is valid as long as the father (wali) of the girl gave consent to this marriage and there were two male witnesses present. So called “molvi” has no impact on the validity of the marriage!

Sheikh, can i make it a condition in my marriage contract that my husband doesn’t remarry as long as I’m in his nikah? I know he doesn’t need permission before remarrying the second wife, but I do not want my husband to have a second wife as long as I’m with him.

ANSWER: It is permissible to stipulate this in your marriage contract.

I have chosen a spouse for marriage and my father was not agreeing in beginning but now Alhamdulillah he agreed to proceed. My father is not practicing Muslim. He has chosen the local imam who does not have correct aqeeda and gives taweez to women. If I tell dad to change the imam he gets angry and is strict on him performing the nikah. What should we do?

ANSWER: The imam has no impact on the validity of the marriage. He only registers it. When your father says to the groom in the presence of two male Muslim witnesses : I give you my daughter in marriage and he answers: I accept, the Marraige is done.

Suppose during aqd nikah mahr is written as 200000 tk, but with the intention that 70000 is obligatory to pay (as husbands capacity is low) and the remaining are optional for the husband, its totally up to him will he pay it or not? Is this type of condition allowed?

ANSWER: No, this is ambiguous. He must write down what he would actually pay.

I have a question regarding marriage. When getting married, does both the woman and the man have to be present in the mosque to say kabul? Or can only the man go to the mosque and the woman can stay in the house with the father of the woman only being present in the mosque. Is the woman supposed to say kabul as well>
