ANSWER:

In marriages, there are many people who are cheaters and don’t fear Allah. Therefore, to protect all parties, such a contract must be registered and legal. Doing it verbally only causes a lot of problems in the future. 

Is marriage done on an actual contract where we need to sign or can we avoid this and just do it verbally? Also does it need to be registered with the law of the country?

In India, people have started a new tradition. When the Imam recites/reads the NIKAH contract of the couple, he does not mention the amount the MAHR (DOWRY). Is NIKAH (marriage contract) valid?
