QUESTION: I am confused regarding the hadith of Abu Hurairah in the hadith book Adab al-Mufrad, where he tells a man to avoid three actions in front of his father. So regarding not sitting before him, is a Muslim obliged to stand up when his father comes in to the room and he is sitting down or if they are both sitting and the father gets up for a reason like going to the bathroom?

ANSWER: This is regarding when they both enter a room like when visiting friends or relatives and the son disrespects his father by sitting before him.

QUESTION: Should a man obey his parents if they order to divorce his wife for her infertility or dumbness or introvert nature?

QUESTION: I am a 19 yr old man, live with my parents and siblings. I would like to pray fajr in the masjid, and although I havent asked, I am 99% certain my father would not allow it. Do I still get the ajr for sitting on my prayer mat and remembering Allah until after sunrise, and praying two raka’aat?

ANSWER: No! It applies only when you’re in the masjid! And you’re an adult now and you don’t need your father’s permission to go out! You must pray in the masjid as this is mandatory for you if the masjid is within the vicinity of your home.

QUESTION: Should I persist in trying to connect with my mother who is orthodox cristian, pay for her burial?

ANSWER: You should maintain kinship relationship with your mother till she dies and be dutiful and respectful towards her. You should not pay for her burial as they would bury her as a Christian; therefore, you would be facilitating and collaborating in their sin.

QUESTION: If I apply ithmid kohl and then go and make wudu, does the ithmid under my eyes prevent water from reaching the skin?

ANSWER: If your parents are self sufficient or someone is there to take care of them and they’re physically not dependent on you then no problem in making hijrah with your wife

QUESTION: We are told having 2 or 3 daughters can lead us to jannah. Is there any similar hadith about reward of sons?

ANSWER: You must abide by the sunnah and trust Allah and ignore criticism which ignorant people send your way. The prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam has faced more criticism than this and was steadfast on his beliefs.

QUESTION: My sister said she wanted to marry her male friend in a halal way, they text each other a lot, the guy has already seen her hair and he goes to the school as me and my sister, I told her many times to stop, she says she blocked him, but I see him on her phone, they sleep on call. my parents don’t know, if I tell them, it’ll break my family apart, I’m confused on how to handle this, what do I do?

ANSWER: Warn her that you would tell your parents about it and if she doesn’t mend her ways then tell your father so that he takes appropriate action

QUESTION: What should I do when my mother tells me to recharge the Dish TV? I try not to watch TV, but she always shouts at me if I deny. I haven’t watched TV for the last 9 months because my Islamic teacher advised me to stop watching it. What is the Islamic point of view on this? Or if someone watches am I sinful for that?

ANSWER: You’ll be sinful if you know for sure she watches haram things on tv and you must not help her or assist her on that while trying to explain to her and being diplomatic at the same time.
