Who is the better decision maker in terms of marriage? If a young woman knows a brother has the potential of a good husband islamically, can she take the decision after convincing her wali ?

ANSWER: She must not have any communication with this brother whatsoever as he is a non-mahram to her. If she convinces her father and he does not give his consent, she must move on and forget about him as any marriage without his consent would be considered invalid.

How much importance should one give to a potential spouse’s height? I am 6’1″ while she is 5’0″. I am very much satisfied with the piety and emaan she has. So should I overlook our significant height difference?

ANSWER: Are you going to marry her or compete with her? You should overlook the height if she’s a righteous Muslimah who would bring up your children in an Islamic way.

Is it permissible for me to cover the spots on my right cheek and left cheek by wearing a hood when meeting a potential spouse for marriage. Her wali invited me to their house. I am an attractive man but want to hide the spots until they fade away.

ANSWER: This is cheating them! If she had something like that and she concealed it with make up, would you feel ok about it after marriage or you would accuse them of cheating you?

ANSWER: The husband has no right in forcing his wife to get a job as it’s solely his responsibility to provide for her. And he’s only mandated to provide for her and their kids basic needs which are the norm for a woman in her stature.

Can I give in charity some of the money my husband gives me, without his knowledge?

ANSWER: If what he is giving you is your own pocket money, this is yours and you can do with it whatever pleases you. But if he gives you this money for household stuff and groceries, you are not allowed to use a penny of it without his permission.

I wanted to ask you whether it is allowed for a Muslim who comitted Zina to marry a pure and rithous Muslima (who has not comitted Zina)? And if not what if he repents and becomes a better Muslim, can he marry her then?

ANSWER: No problem in marrying her if he had repented and it was not well known to the public that he is an openly fornicator. Whether he marries a good Muslimah is a separate issue but he must sincerely repent to Allah for the grave sin which he has committed.

My question is that I have seen my father in law and mother in law sleeping in two separate rooms since I got married.. I got married in …. I never saw them sleeping together.. people say their marriage is not valid now? They can’t stay in same place??? Is that true??? Please guide

ANSWER: What you have heard is totally wrong. They’re still a married couple even if they don’t have intimacy for 50 years.

ANSWER: No problem in having walima right after nikah before intimacy.

My wife prays occasionally and also doesn’t abide by hijaab. When I try to preach her she sometimes listens other times she says that if you want to be religious then do whatever you want but don’t preach me because I’ll go to my grave and you will go to your grave. How much responsible is husband for his wife’s actions?

ANSWER: A wife must listen to her husband in everything halal and it is his duty to see that everyone under him, including his wife is abiding by Islam otherwise he is sinful. He has the right to force her to wear the hijab and to avoid sins.
