QUESTION: I have no male wali. My mother handles proposals for me. Sometimes a Abroad proposal man asks to speak with me briefly on a call through my mother’s number before visiting, since we can’t invite every proposal home. Is it permissible to talk once, in my mother’s presence, just for basic discussion?

ANSWER: No, this is not permissible. There must be one of your male mahrams present in the meeting, if this is not possible then the imam of your local Islamic center should act as your wali & your mother must not sit in the meeting.

QUESTION: My family is not financially stable and I’m trying my best with what Allah has blessed me sometimes it’s hard for my parents to eat they sacrifice for my siblings, Also I want to get married but I want to ask you for advice whether to wait for everything to be alright before getting married or the best opinion

QUESTION: If a wife willingly contributes her own income towards household expenses for some years, and later she decides not to spend from her income anymore, is it permissible in Islam for her to ask her husband to return the money she had spent before? Would it be considered haram for her to ask for it back?

ANSWER: This is not permissible as she spent that money by her own will unless she made it clear to him from the beginning that this is a loan and a debt on him to her.

QUESTION: Can a husband and wife talk about physical intimacy or sexual desires through msgs when they are apart,like saying I’ll do this to you or we’ll do that to express their longing and fullfil emotional and physical desires through words?

ANSWER: No problem in this as long as they do not masturbate.

QUESTION: Sheikh, we want to arrange our waliemah among close family members in a restaurant. We managed to get a restaurant that has seperate rooms for males and females. However, the working staff, who will serve the food, will be mixed. I.e., it is possible that a male staff might have to serve the food in the womens section. Is this allowed?

ANSWER: This is not permissible as the male waiters would be able to see women!

QUESTION: My son loved a girl and wanted to marry her. As a mother, I agreed at first because I wanted his happiness. Later, I learned the girl planned to hide their relationship from her parents to make it seem like an arranged marriage.I disagreed with that, & since then, my son has spoken harshly, blaming me for ruining his life. Was I wrong to stop their marriage?

ANSWER: If you wanted her to expose their relationship to her parents before proposing, this is prohibited and immodest! Who in his right mind would tell a girl to expose herself like this to her parents? Allah has concealed their sin and you want to expose it?

ANSWER: You have a right to ask for divorce or seek khula in such a situation. If you remain married to him till you die and you both enter paradise, you must be with him.

QUESTION: When my wife was born Her parents gave her (fatima) as a last name just cuz it sounded good instead of father name I know women arent allowed to change their name after marriage but given that her name already doesn’t have her father’s name as her last name, should I add mine now after marriage?
