QUESTION: Can a husband refuse to provide his wife with a separate kitchen, room, and washroom for privacy on the basis that her family knew at marriage that he was living with his mother, even though he lives in a double-storey one-kanal house (owned by his mother)? ANSWER: No, she has the right to have her own bedroom, washroom and her own separate kitchen. She is not obliged to meet any of his family members, let alone serve them!

QUESTION: In marriage, does the husband’s role as head of the household mean he can expect his wife to follow or impose his personal preferences in small daily matters such as food, tea, or type of bread, on the basis that she is expected to adapt to the customs and routines of the in-laws’ household rather than maintaining her own preferences or those she was raised with?

ANSWER: In Islam, she is not obliged to adapt to the customs and routines of her in-laws and may maintain her own preferences. Her job in Islam is to take care of him and his children, and she may do that in any way she sees fit.

QUESTION: It’s been more than 11 yrs since my husband has almost stopped praying except for Jummah and during Ramadan. Have advised him many times. Have asked for a divorce but he doesn’t want to. He lives in my apartment. Is it permissable to kick him out or go to court to divorce him?

QUESTION: Here free mixing is normalised. Everyone I know (even students of ilm) follows opposite gender on snapchat & instagram. I don’t do it. I have a proposal. He does this, & my family sees no issue. He prays, has good akhlaq, & says he’ll maintain boundaries while interacting with other women. Should I accept the proposal?

ANSWER: Normalising free mixing like this is not permissible. It is better to wait for a better option for a spouse or make it a condition before going through the proposal that he stops such haram activities.

QUESTION: Parent of a bride I wish to marry albeit claims to follow salafi school but works in a riba-based Bank. I find it difficult to come in terms to marry such a woman since I feel she may get offended when I talk against Riba or worse she may herself belief it is not wrong. ANSWER: Your family is right. If she is a practicing Muslimah who follows the correct aqeedah of the salaf then you can marry her.

QUESTION: I am married for 2.5 years and after my marriage first time I spoke with my male friend and after talking (normal talks) for 2 hrs I felt guilty, should I tell my husband or repent silently, I’m scared to tell him.

ANSWER: You must not tell him or anyone about that as its not permissible to expose your sins in front of anyone! Sincerely repent to Allah while showing deep remorse and never do such a thing ever again! Block this guy from everywhere and never respond to him.
