If I advise my wife to do something, and she says this is between me and Allah. And that she will take responsibility. Is my responsibility complete? If I advise her but not force her? Because they say there is no compulsion in religion.

ANSWER: Things that are obligatory, you should compel her to do. It is your duty to save her and your family from Hell Fire. Other things such as voluntary acts, you may tell her to do and if she does not do, it’s her responsibility.

I am a newlywed and finds that my husband spends too much time on phone and is least interested in listening to lectures or reading Islamically beneficial material. How can I help him improve? Please include in duas Sheikh.

ANSWER: Advice him when he is in good mood and you practice more in front of him. Try to indulge in fruitful discussions and reminders in a diplomatic and loving way.

Wife is “Lazy” in sleeping & waking. She is pregnant and sometimes I want her to be active & healthy only. When I say to get off the bed she refuses & when I say it is my order, she says “I am NOT obliged to obey because it is out of my capacity.” If this is correct then for which orders she has to obey? Only for those she agrees or, for those too, she disagrees. She values you Plz advise for her.

ANSWER: Life between the spouses is not orders and obedience! This can be found in companies but not between the spouses who are supposed to share love, compassion and mercy. If she is pregnant, it is normal for her to sleep more and to feel lazy.

Is family planning allowed between husband and wife such as use of contraceptives? Not contraceptives as in pills or birth controls but for example, condoms?

ANSWER: You should use condoms only if your wife agrees.

As per the subject, kindly advice if it is a bad deed to live separately from parents after marriage. Even though my father is earning, so many things are going around at home. There is no peace in my mind. Wife wants a different house. She tried to adjust but I believe I will lose her and my child if I continue to stay with my parents. Please advice.

ANSWER: It is not a bad deed to live separately after marriage. It is your wife’s right to have a separate accommodation after marriage and you can only give her the due rights.

You must not refuse intimacy with your husband unless it is harming you and beyond your ability to tolerate. Tell him that this smell harms you and the baby.

My wife urges me to live away from my original relatives but she is fine to have my parents in a new place. But my parents want to live in old house joint family with other relatives also.
