QUESTION: Can a mother-in-law prevent her daughter-in-law from sleeping in the morning on weekends after offering Fajr solely because it is the household’s practice not to sleep in the morning? Also can she scold daughter in law for not doing things according to her rules. PS: The husband does not have any issue with his wife sleeping, only the mother in law gets angry over this.

ANSWER: The mother in law has no such rights over her daughter in law. She should ignore her demands and be diplomatic and not argue with her but serve her husband and children as this is her obligation in Islam and not to obey her mother in law!

QUESTION: Sheikh, what is the ruling and punishment for a man who has the means but does not provide for his wife and for a man who does not provide for his children (full/proper maintenance) in a divorced home.

ANSWER: After divorce the man is not obliged at all to provide for his ex wife! As for his children, it’s solely his responsibility to take care of all the financial needs of his children even if they don’t live with him.

QUESTION: “Whenever any calamity strikes you,remember your loss in me,& this will make go away your calamity”.If this hadith is authentic How do we remember Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam when calamity falls upon?(i mean should we say any dya/salutation or just remembering he is not with us anymore & this will go away our calamity?)

ANSWER: This hadeeth is authentic and it talks about overwhelming love to our prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam a source of solace when we remember our loss and inability to see and meet him.

QUESTION: Will saying Allahu Akbar after saying “Subhana Rabbiyal Athem” make the salah invalid? If so, does that make all my past salah invalid, because I didn’t know but when I knew, I wasn’t sure whether to trust it or not so I still say Allahu Akbar? When I researched, I saw that it was still valid to say Allahu Akbar and my mother said to still say Allahu Akbar.

ANSWER: You must say SamiAllah huliman hamidah while rising up from ruku and not Allahu Akbar. Your prayer is valid due to your ignorance. However, if you continue to do this deliberately, your prayer is invalid.

QUESTION: Sheikh I read on Islamweb it is backbiting if you don’t specify but listener knows who you’re talking about which I am confused. I say someone did so and so instead of explicitly mentioning who. Please advise.

QUESTION: Sheikh my mother was not talking to me since long because I took my share In inheritance (daughters share)after dad’s death .so I went to talk to her in a expectation that may be if I approach she will again talk to me but instead she asked me not to call and not to come that home which is actually inherited by us.
