QUESTION: Sheikh my parents bought gold jewellery for my sister to give her as a gift on her wedding so do we have to give zakat for those jewelry because here some people said that you don’t have to give zakat for gift because this is not your you will not use it. Is it true Sheikh?

ANSWER: As long as its above nisab and in your mother’s possession for over a hijri year, she must pay zakat on it every year, until she actually, physically gives that as a gift to her daughter.

ANSWER: No problem if the husband gives his wife’s zakat out of love and compassion (when she authorises him). If he’s not going to pay it on your behalf, you must pay it immediately by selling some of the gold if you don’t have cash. Few days after eid won’t matter.
