If it is done at home then it is permissible. However, it is best not to do that just to be safe as some scholars interpreted it to be prohibited whether it was done in front of non mahram or alone.

This is permissible if there isn’t any other option and your mahram is with you.

My parents pray Tahajjud every night, sometimes together and at times, separately. When they pray individually, they each read while holding the kitaab. To my understanding, one can recite from the kitaab only during a voluntary prayer. Is this correct? And when holding a kitaab, does one hold the Quran directly in front of them or cross arms and hold it?

It is permissible for the one who prayes tahajud to hold the Quran in any way it is suitable for him.

Say If I joined the third rakhat behind iman of zohr namaz & in fourth rakhat and for me it will be second rakhat and do i have to read only attayat or attayat + darud + dua

This is Allah’s law and we are not in the position to question it. If everyone starts questioning Islamic law and rules, there won’t be any kind of submission to Allah! The junkies would question what drugs and intoxicants are prohibited. Prostitutes would object on prohibiting the oldest profession and so on!
