A Muslim woman can only marry a Muslim man. A Muslim man can marry a Christian, Jew or Muslim women.

Dear Sheikh, how do I explain to my parents that they cannot even see my future Wife until she is considered a mahram to my male family members eg Father and Brother? I was asked by my younger Sister and Mother to bring her home and introduce her to them as they also wanted to see how she looked like. She is a student of knowledge by the way.

Your mother and sister can visit her. It is totally prohibited for you to bring her or even to communicate with her before getting married, let alone have your male members see her! Tell them that this is the ruling of Allah, whether they like it or not!

I was reading about major sins & I saw that a man who knows his wife commits adultery & does nothing will be punished by Allah. Does it also apply to women who know their husband is doing such acts but do nothing? Also does it mean they have to divorce either way, as in the case of Li’aan? Because people here say the wife must stay with the husband.

If a spouse repented, this is ok. If one of the spouses is still committing adultery, the other spouse should leave and not stay with such an open sinner.

My son wants to do nikaah with a Christian Protestant German lady. She does not do idol worship, but, as of now she does not want to revert to Islam. (May Allah grant her hidayah) My question is that is this nikaah permissible? Can we attend this nikaah?

This is permissible, however your son must never stop to call her to islam in a nice and wise way. The marriage must be done according to Islam with the consent of her guardian and the presence of two male Muslims.

I’m a practicing Muslimah, now its time for my marriage, my parents cant understand me that i want to marry person, who is good practicing muslim as well as educated. as they lack both of these qualities. If someone practicing proposes to you and your father rejects him, go to the Muslim court or to the authorized Islamic center and complain about your case and they will give you in marriage to this man if he is suitable.

is it ok to give a joint reception from both sides[girl and boy’s family] if nikah is done on henna function?

Such a joint reception is permissible but what is not permissible is to have men and women mixing together, to have music or to imitate the Hindus in their rituals and henna.

Is it permissible to marry a girl (who is a less practising Muslimah) but if she promises, that she will try her best to follow the Rulings of Salat, Siam, Zakat, Hijab etc. after Marriage.. P.S. Now a days, It’s extremly difficult to find a True Practising girl in Bangladesh. What should I do?

This is permissible but is it advisable? The answer is ‘no’ as many don’t keep their promise and the man ends up stuck with a woman who is not practicing and a number of children involved!

After a girl had her nikkah, she has a wedding reception and in that she wants some of her friends to be her bridesmaid and maid of honor..Is it haram to be a bridesmaid or maid of honor on someones weddding reception?
