I am a British women interested in Islam. I wanted to ask you a question. Men have been given the authority to control their women. Now this is a good rule since men are more experienced in authority and leadership, I wanted to know whether they have the right to abuse this power on their own wish? Such as locking their women in house or not letting them to socialise?

The general teachings state that the best of men are the best and most kindest to their women. With great powers come great responsibilities and some men may abuse that. This is not permissible and they are sinful for that.

Even after telling my husabnd several times he has taken and used my money(which i received as a gift from my fathers side) which is a huge amount without my consent and approval this has happened 2nd time in a year and he lied to me that he hasn’t taken but i caught him i dont respect & trust him anymore am shocked How do i earn Allah Subhaan Wa Tala mercy & rewards

He has no right in taking anything without your consent. Take your money and all of your gold and deposit it in a bank where he can’t access it.

Shaikh, Someone said that it is obligatory for the men’s family to pay for the wedding expenses and that the dowry must cover all the other wedding expenses such as jewlery, clothing, etc for the wedding. Is it a cultural practice (not religious practice) for which family pays for the wedding and also the women has the right to use the dowry for whatever she wishes?

Yes, it is the responsibility of the man’s family to arrange for a walimah! Usually, the number of guests for the brides family is limited and hence they offer to participate in the expenses so that their quota of guests can increase.

I am a 26 year old man and I want to marry my cousin. however my mom doesn’t consent. my whole family says she is a good girl and that i should marry her. what should i do?

Try to convince your mother, if she doesn’t agree you can marry your cousin but it is not recommended to marry against the will of your mother as this would cause trouble in the future.

Is there anything to read or do apart from ruqya if you feel you’re married life is getting destroyed due to evil eye/black magic? I have been reading surah baqarah and all duas to seek protection from all sorts of evil.

Continue your ruqyah and keep your morning and evening supplications. You may need to communicate with your spouse to find out the root of the problem. Sitting with a Muslim marriage counselor helps a lot.

When man marry second time without permission of present wife does that mean he ibetrayed his present wife although he has become more responsible towards present wife after second marriage and he left other wife in no men’s land to manage at her own with two kids . So just that reason give him right to be unjust with other wife coz he betrayed to first wife?

Marrying another wife is a man’s right, so this is not betrayal, and if he is not fair with the other wife, this is a great sin, he must treat both in the same way. Otherwise, marrying a second wife is prohibited.

I know non-mahram men & women being in contact before marriage is haram. But would in be haram to interact online if a third party was part of the messages at all times (say, another brother or sister) making sure nothing haram happened? Or would this be khalwa too?

This is not recommended as it may lead to something else. The boy must go and see the girl face to face, talk to her wali and arrange with them everything.

I intend to marry this girl and both of us are going into final year of university. We intend to do the marriage contract now and consummate it when we finish. But in the meantime, she’d stay with her family. So what would be my responsibility as a husband towards her?

As long as the marriage is not consummated, there are no responsibilities as her obedience is to her father until she moves into your home.

He has religious mind and the girl who wants to get marriage with him is not religious. Both of them want to get marriage but the girl is afraid she will not continue the religious life after marriage.So both of them are in a confusion. Please advice us

He shouldn’t marry someone like this as she will cause him problems in the future.

I am a 24 years old girl, living in Jeddah with my family. I am studying and working. Further, I would like to pursue my career in aviation. I plan to get married after pursuing my career. But I have had people telling me that if I delay marriage, Allah will give azaab to my parents and they will be punished on the day of judgement. Is there any basis to that? Plz explain elaborately

If a good proposal comes your way, accept it and get married! This is more important than your career. It is not permissible for a woman to work in flying whether as a pilot or a crew member as this requires mixing with men and traveling without a mahram and both are prohibited.
