My father has not been a husband figure to my mother for many years (around 9), as he has remarried. My mother has not filed for divorce as she didn’t want to create a rift between the two families. Is there marriage still valid under Islamic law, is he still a Maharam to my mother?

ANSWER: Of course they are still married and he is still her mahram. Even if they didn’t see each other for 20 years or whatever, the marriage will still be valid, unless they took divorce.

I am an orphan with no parents, and I am an only child, ie no brothers. Both my grandfathers have passed away. My father has no brothers.I am getting married soon. However, my future husband’s family is concerned I do not have a male guardian. Please advise.

ANSWER: You can go to the Masjid near you or the authorised Islamic center, they will look into your case and the Imam would act as your guardian.

My husband had an affair with one of his cousins before our marriage. When he realized the gravity of the sin of haram relation he asked forgiveness and changed himself completely. ANSWER: There shouldn’t be any free mixing between genders when they visit your house or when you go to someone else’s house, this way you avoid the awkward situation. You must let go of your jealousy as this would ruin your married life, especially when your husband has repented.

If I declined a marriage offer, then went to sleep then felt really bad that I said no. It was if I really should have given him a chance. Could this be a sign from God that I should say yes. I said yes but due to how he looks I am unsure if I want him. What should I do?

ANSWER: You should look at overall how he is, his religious background, his job, his family and looks. After analyzing all this if you still feel you’re not attracted to him because of his looks then you should not accept.

A couple who was living together (only married legally but not religiously)has accepted islam. Do they need to renew/make a new religious marriage in islam.

Sheikh, please advise me. I am a solo mother of 3 good kids. Girl 7, boys 3 & 1. My 3yo loves me and his sister a lot. His father is not around anymore. He often asked to be a girl.
