QUESTION: My father passed away four years ago. As with British law all his money and assets went to my mother. I have asked for this to be distributed according to the Sharia but my Mother and siblings said this will only be distributed after our mother passes away as she is the Mother and has full rights to these assets and can do as she pleases because a mother’s status in Islam is very high.

ANSWER: Yes, it’s a debt on him & this mahr amount (which was fixed at the time of their nikah) must be given to your mum from his inheritance

ANSWER: They can boycott them if they want, if the children had committed something heinous in Islam that calls for that. However, they can’t prevent them from inheriting them after their death as long as they are Muslims.
