What exactly is considered cutting kinship ties? With regards to my relatives, we live our own lives, mind our own business, so we don’t talk much to each other. We have no problems; just have nothing to say. Especially since we’re in different countries, don’t speak the same language, and barely know each other since we never became close. Is this okay?

ANSWER: No, this is not ok. You must call them every now and then to uphold ties of kinship and check if they need any help.

My parents got divocred years ago and the whole family got in a big fight. My mom raised me, brother and sister alone. I would like to unite the family and both sides made mistakes. I dont no where to start. The contact stopped for almost 15 years. My mom one time stop talking with me when i reached out to a family member and boycotted me. I find no support in my family.

ANSWER: You must maintain ties of kinship with your father and relatives and not listen to your mother in this regard.

ANSWER: If he took this riba based loan and now he is remorseful and shows sincere repentance to never do this again, you can help him pay it off. But if he is not remorseful, you must not give him anything as this would encourage him and others to take such a riba based loan.

Is it true that a woman should be concealed so much so that even her cousins that are non mahram should not know her hair colour and how her hair is like? Curly, silky, smooth? Is it permissible to let a bit of hair come out of her hijab? And what should I do about my cousins wife who doesnt wear proper hijab? Tell her or the husband politely?

Sheikh, if our family members showed signs of Hypocrisyi.e .lazy for prayers and involved in Riba’ .how can we prevent hypocrisy amongst us or is ot something fated!

ANSWER: They must be advised while using good manners, wisdom and knowledge. You must not label your family members as hypocrites as this is the way of the khawarij.

Are your cousins like your brothers and sisters and if you stop talking to them does this count as cutting family ties? Do you have to talk with all relatives even distant ones or just your close ones? To keep ties with family do you have to visit them or can you call them on phone and write to them?

ANSWER: If the cousins are of the same gender, they should maintain the ties of kinship by communicating with each other, either in person or on phone, however if they’re of opposite gender, they shouldn’t interact unnecessarily as they’re not mahram to each other.

I recently suggested 2 my cousin that her profile pic on WhatsApp was a bit too attractive. I’ve been dropping hints on improving on religion also for some time now. She blocked me in response. Similarly, when I advised my sis-in-law not to go in for the birth control operation, she said she knows it’s haraam but she did it. How best to deal with such relatives who knowingly sin?

Make du’a for them along with what you are doing. You have done your obligation and the sin is on them.

Sheikh, If my relatives are into movies and music stuff and thinks or works only for duniya and money should I stop visiting them? After visiting them me be like okkky they are far far away from islam. what should I do?

You should not cut ties with your relatives, however you must give them da’wah every now and then. If you feel they’re a bad influence on you then you should not visit them often but you should keep in touch over the phone at least.
