Dealings and Attitudes with Relatives

I don’t quite understand what it means to uphold the ties of kinship. Do I have to talk with my relatives on phone (I don’t live near them) regularly to uphold the ties? I see them once in a year or two.

ANSWER: Yes, you must call them regularly to maintain Salam with them and see if they need anything and answer their invitations and invite them to yours.

As we are not allowed to cut ties with relatives but what to do of those relatives who create fights and rift amongst each other? The more we keep in touch the more problems create.

ANSWER: Reduce the time spent with them and minimize it but do not sever kinship.

If we have brother and sisters who we KNOW they dont pray OUT OF LAZINESS. Is it fard upon us to boycott them? Or can we still hang out with them and talk. Sadly MANY peoplr around us from freinds and family dont pray. They would never drink alcohol or zina etc because its haraam but everyone seems sooooo leniet when it comes to prayer.

ANSWER: Don’t cut them off and keep on praying in front of them and inviting them to join and giving them gentle reminders every now and then.

I don’t spend much time with my family (other than my parents and siblings) I’d like to know if I have to call my grandma,uncles,aunties every now and then or is it okay if I don’t call them at all but when I see them somewhere I talk to them and say سلم. ANSWER: You must maintain ties by meeting them every now and then if they live near by or give them calls if they live far away but you cannot stop talking with them for this long.

ANSWER: You must maintain ties with all the relatives that are mahram to you and those of the same gender who are related to you from your father and mother’s side.

Question is from someone very close to me. “For my own fault there is a problem among relatives in a family.Now its killing me inside.how can I recover my fault?? ANSWER: Make a lot of duaa, give charity on their behalf, send them gifts, try to be nice with them, and make a lot of istighfar.

We have sold a machine to my cousin ……..$ and it has been …..yrs now he is not willing to pay, when we ask for the cash he don’t respond anything than I don’t have money n ur Mashine is already spoiled. We beg for our Haq but he don’t care can we cut ties with him and remain with the relationship of Salaam Salaam only? Bcoz I can’t even stand talking to him and even asking for that cash anymore.
