When we were about to get married, my husband told me at the eve of our wedding that he exhausted his money and does not have the mahr. So I told them that he had already given me, so during the wedding the amount was just mentioned but he did not give me till date. I read somewhere that without mahr the marriage is invalid. I read in Qur’an verse 9:64 and I am a bit worried. I am studying and learning about Islam. But I am sometimes afraid that I might learn about an order of Allah which would make me do something I severely dislike or make me leave something I dearly love. Is this fear a sign of hypocrisy? Hassan Al-Basry said about hypocrisy; “No one but a true believer is afraid of hypocrisy, and the one who feels secure in it is a true hypocrite”. Not wanting to do something because one desires something else is not hypocrisy as long as he eventually does it without hating the law of Allah.
