QUESTION: I have a younger sister who is a few years past puberty and she does not observe the hijab. This is partly because my parents haven’t ever talked to her about the hijab at all since she was a child and when I advise them that they should teach her about the hijab as it’s important, my mother refuses and threatens me. ANSWER: No problem in wearing these in front of other women or at your home in front of your mahrams but when going out and in front of non mahram men, you must wear a very loose and thick fabric abaya that covers your entire body, bone structure and curves.

QUESTION: When I go out I wear loose clothes and a hijab from my head till above my stomach. My hijab is only till above my stomach. Am I sinful for wearing such a short hijab? Will my hijab be considered as an outer clothing?

ANSWER: No problem in praying without undergarments as long as she’s wearing a thick and very loose outer garment over her clothes that covers her entire body, her bone structure, shoulders and curves and a very loose abaya does this job perfectly.

QUESTION: We know that Muslim women are not allowed to leave the house wearing perfume. But are Muslim women allowed to put bukhoor/incense on their clothes before they leave the house?

ANSWER: If the fragrance can be smelled by others, this is totally prohibited but if its very very mild and no one can smell it then no problem.

QUESTION: My question is I have asked my wife not to do hijab at home when I am at home and when her father is around because I want to see her without hijab. But my wife says she will do it in front of her father as an act of respect because this is what she did as an act of respect. What are your thoughts on this?

ANSWER: What she’s doing is wrong. There is no such hijab in front of her mahrams. If she insists, tell her not to allow her father in the house!

QUESTION: What is the ruling for muslim men and women to wear orange colored dress? I have heard that “gerua” color is haram to wear and “gerua” is a shade of orange/saffron color. This color is widely used by hindu priest and buddist monk. So, is only “gerua” color haram? or is any shade of orange color haram? How to know if a certain orange color is “gerua” or not?
