Im newly married,his mom tortured me in 1st mnth n his sisters got separated us,takes care of his mom.i live alone,in a 1bedroom house where i feel suffocated,my husband goes 40kms away to office,even if im sick theres nobody to take care,can i ask him to move near his office where he can visit in emergencies? Or am i sinning?

ANSWER: If you mean you live alone and your husband lives with his mother, this is absolutely wrong. You must live with him. You’re not sinning at all as having a separate accommodation with your husband is your right.

ANSWER: Her father must be her Wali and she can’t choose another Wali other than him. It is the father’s right to refuse whoever he believes is not suitable for his daughter. If your father is against you marrying anyone permanently, in this case, you can go to the Muslim court or the authorized Islamic center and they will appoint another guardian for you.

What is the ruling on speaking on the phone with the opposite gender for the sake of getting to know each other for marriage. Note, this will be within limits and not going beyond the scope of getting to know each other (likes, dislikes, personality) . Note, she lives in another state and she would like to speak on the phone to get to know each other more.

ANSWER: This is not permissible. You can only speak with her in the first meeting, in the presence of her wali when you go to see her.

I want to marry a good looking & religious girl. I got a proposal frm very religious girl bt she is little fat and not good looking. Now I feel like I should not let this proposal go as such religious girl proposals come rare & should give preference to her deen over looks. Howevr, I fear that what if I get a feeling of dislike towards her later aftr marriage. What should I do? Pls tell in detail.

ANSWER: This is up to you! If you don’t like her weight or how she looks, move on and look for someone else. You have to bear in mind that you are also not Mr. Universe and you need to look at yourself in the mirror as well!
