QUESTION: Can a mother-in-law prevent her daughter-in-law from sleeping in the morning on weekends after offering Fajr solely because it is the household’s practice not to sleep in the morning? Also can she scold daughter in law for not doing things according to her rules. PS: The husband does not have any issue with his wife sleeping, only the mother in law gets angry over this.

ANSWER: The mother in law has no such rights over her daughter in law. She should ignore her demands and be diplomatic and not argue with her but serve her husband and children as this is her obligation in Islam and not to obey her mother in law!

QUESTION: I am not happy in my husband’s family because of the issue between mother in law and me. The problem is my husband is the only son of his parents though they will not let us to leave to another house. what can i do with this situation in Islamic way

She doesn’t let my wife pick out clothes she likes for an event and always has a complain about how it is not nice. She also complains that my wife never served/cooked my side of the family. ANSWER: You don’t have to take her permission nor even inform her because she has no right, none whatsoever over you. What matters is your husband’s permission, if he’s OK with you going then go ahead without waiting for anyone else’s approval.

QUESTION: My marriage has almost 2 years and I am the only son of my parents. Due to some reasons my mom and my wife both relation are not enough so my wife demand a separate kitchen. ANSWER: Your wife has all the right given by Allah to ask you for a separate accommodation and you MUST give her her right!

QUESTION: I always try to give salam to my husband’s relatives but some of them don’t like it and don’t reply back and it makes me feel stupid so I feel like giving greeting them in an Islamic way. Should I keep giving them salam or just say normal hello?

ANSWER: Keep giving them salam and if they don’t reply, they are sinful and Angels would reply to your salam instead.

ANSWER: What he is doing is the right thing to do! Fear Allah and don’t be an advocate of satan! It’s not permissible for you to chit-chat, socialize or hang around with him as he’s a non mahram to you and you must be in complete hijab in front of him.

ANSWER: This is totally prohibited as he is non mahram to your wife and a total stranger to her.

QUESTION: Been married to my husband for 5 years and have 1 small daughter. In laws keep on telling vulgar things about my family. They never can accept my husband having good relation with them. My mother in law is the main person to use my father in law as a weapon to always trigger my husband. Son has stopped contact with them for our peace orelse they just make everything worse. ANSWER: He is sinful for not contacting them. He should go and be dutiful and respectful to them but must not reply to their abuse or defend you or your family. Let them talk as if they are crazy talking to themselves without replying to them.

QUESTION: When my parents come to visit me and my children my wife misbehaves with them and fights with me afterwards saying that my parents have no right to come in my house. My parents live in their own house normally. I know that my wife has the right to a separate house in Islam but can she refuse to allow my parents to come to my house for a visit also?

ANSWER: She has no right to stop them from visiting you in your house as this is your house! She can object to them living there but not to visiting you!
