It is forbidden to fast the 10th, 11th 12th and the 13th of the month of Thul Hijjah. It is recommended that you fast from the 1st till the 9th. The 9th itself erases the sins of 2 years.

You can fast any day except the days we were told not to fast them such as Eid of Ramadan, Eid of Hajj and the 3 days following it, singling out Friday or Saturday.

If fasted alone, yes it is prohibited.
