QUESTION: Sheikh, what’s the ruling on Ratib Al Haddad which comprises of verses of the Quran and the supplications of the Prophet ﷺ. It is recited regularly in congregation after the Isha’ prayer, except in the month of Ramadan, where it is recited before Isha to allow time for the Tarawih prayers.

ANSWER: This is not permissible as its an innovation. Such people are sufis and they are filled with innovation and some are also calling others for shirk. You must avoid such sects and abide by the quran and sunnah with the understanding of the favorite 3 generations.

QUESTION: Is it permissible to meditate by closing your eyes and focusing on your breath in silence (mindfulness mediation) to help with focus?

ANSWER: There’s no concept of meditation in Islam. Even while praying, we are required to keep our eyes open and pray with full concentration unlike meditation where people close their eyes and meditate in such a way that they are not even aware of their surroundings and go into a trance.

QUESTION: Is it okay if i keep track of the sunnah prayers i pray in a notebook so that i can see my results and in which ones i need to focus more? I have set a goal to myself to pray the second sunnah of Dhuhr for 21 days so that i make it a habit, and i am keeping track of it every single day? Is it okay if i do so? Or should i stop doing it? Thank you.

ANSWER: Writing down is an innovation and not from the sunnah.

QUESTION: Sheikh, is it true that some of the Salaf used to wipe their face after dua, hence it doesn’t become a bid’ah. Can you please clarify?

ANSWER: What counts is whether the prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam and his companions did it or not! What others did after that doesn’t count to be part of Islam as the religion was completed at the time of the prophet and wiping the face was not part of it.

QUESTION: My parents are going to umrah In Sha Allah.My father wants to take their funeral cloth to Saudi and wash them with jamjam water as it is a sacred water and bring it back in our country.Wil it be an innovation?

QUESTION: People buy Kafan (deadboy cloth) for themselves in advance during their lifetime and keep them. Is it allowed? Then people take it to Makkah and get it washed (ghusl) in zamzam water. They also get different ayats and duas written or imprinted on them. I have never heard of this before and it turns out that this is a practice on a huge level amongst Muslims in the Subcontinent (India/Pak).

ANSWER: No problem in buying the kafan but taking it to makkah and washing it with zamzam and writing ayahs on it is totally prohibited and an innovation.

QUESTION: Sheikh, what is the ruling on blowing on Others after making duaa or blowing on yourself after dua then rubbing the body?

ANSWER: This is not from the sunnah and it is an innovation. One can blow on his hands and wipe his body if he is reciting ruqya for healing and cure.
