Please what is the Islamic ruling on courtship? The lady insist on not talking to the man as she has no intention of marrying him,and he insists she should give him chance to see if he can win her heart…is that allowed?

ANSWER: There’s no concept of courtship in Islam, none whatsoever! Dating is haram and the man can only see and talk to a girl in the first meeting after he proposes to her father and he agrees, when he goes to see her for marrying, in the presence of her wali, that is it.

I wanted to ask if a girl is engaged (no nikah just a promise that they will get married in front of both familiesa) Is she allowed to talk on the phone with her husband to be?

ANSWER: No, this is not permissible. He can talk to you only during the first meeting when he comes to see you in the presence of your father (wali).

My parents have seen me proposal so from boys side they wanted to do an engagement funtion.so having engagement is halal or haram? If we do an engagement funtion will i earn the curse of Allah?

ANSWER: No problem in this as long as there’s nothing haram involved, like exchanging rings, music, free mixing between non mahrams etc. You and this man are still strangers and non mahram until you get the marriage contract done.

Sheikh,yesterday I asked my mom how to know a girl before marriage(i.e the way she talks or responds, her attitude etc.)she told me that after engagement we go out together,talk and she called it courtship, she said if the girl finds something wrong in the boy or the boy finds something wrong in the girl, the wedding can be cancelled before it is performed. ANSWER: This is absolutely prohibited in Islam. Courtship is not part of Islam, engagement does not make her halal for you to hang out with as she’s still your non mahram untill the marriage.

A mahram has to be present when the girl and the boy are talking before their marriage but is it important that the mahram of the girl listens to their conversation?

ANSWER: Of course! A girl and boy must not have any communication with each other other than the initial interview conducted by the girl’s father (wali) as there are no strings attached and they are still non-mahrams to one another!

What you are doing is sinful, you can’t talk to her unless you are married, let alone talk romantically and inappropriately. Pressure your parents to marry as soon as possible and do not delay this. You can also talk to her father about your need to get married quickly.
