Huffath is the plural of Hafith.

This terminology is given to those who memorize a lot of Hadeeth and are knowledgeable in this science. That is why Imam Ahmed, Bukhari, Muslim and others were considered to be Huffath.

Also, any person memorizing the Quran is considered a Hafith even if he doesn’t know the meanings of the verses.

What is the real meaning of Huffaz in Islam? Is it one who memorizes the whole Qur’an without knowing the meanings of the verses?
