What she said is wrong and baseless. She can accept your gift the same way as she accepts it from her husband or son. There is no difference at all. 

My mother is a house wife she has alot of money. still i bought her a bus ticket for umrah(We live in jeddah) . but she denied she said the person must pay for her umrah if she/he capable of it. And you are my daughter so it’s not on you to pay my umrah expense except my husband or son.
