It is not permissible for a Muslim to attend the funeral of a non-Muslim

“And never (O Muhammad) pray for any of them (hypocrites) who dies, nor stand at his grave. Certainly they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and died while they were Faasiqoon (rebellious, — disobedient to Allah and His Messenger).” [al-Tawbah 9:84]

Can a muslim participate to a non-muslim funeral?

What i would like to ask is considering the cremation of hindus. my hindu friend thinks that the islamic burial is a cruel thing to do to the dead ones as the body is being slowly decomposed ..while by hindu beliefs when they cremate it the process is done readily at once…i have no idea how to tackle her question, please shed some light into this matter
