The Quran was revealed to be recited and pondered upon. Therefore, using it as a ring tone is forbidden as it is a form of humiliating and disrespecting the Quran. Likewise, it is forbidden to use the Athan as a ring tone as the Athan is a notification of the time of prayer and so often the phone rings on other times which would also indicate disrespecting the Athan.

Sheikh, is it permissible to use a nice recitation of the Quran as a ringtone?
