One of its meanings is The One! This is not like saying He is one but rather He is The One!

Saying ‘alone’ is not correct as this is not a good translation nor that it is a good attribute! It can be translated as The One and only, The One without a partner  and no one is like Him.

A friend mentioned that “One” may be improper to translate “Ahad” (in context of the Tawheed of Allah). This is because in the English language, “One” may suggest that there is “Two”, “Three”, etc. He said that it is preferable to say “Alone” instead, because it shows better that “there is no other”. Is he correct?

According to a saheeh hadeeth, “Allaah has ninety-nine names. Whoever counts them will enter Paradise.” However there are more than 99 known names of Allah in the Quran and Sunnah. So which are the 99 names? Therefore should I remember all the names? (I.e. more than one hundred?). Also can you please give me a complete list of all the known names of Allah (Azza Wajjal)?
