Why didn’t allah give us direct proof of his existence and why is there a barrier between him and us.angels can see him directly

Over the past 6 months, I have had a faith crises. My real question is, there are so many religions, ideologies, lifestyles, outlooks on life etc… how do I know that Islam is the right one? Many people seem happy with their kufr ways of living, and many intellectuals have disregarded Islam, how come they don’t see the truth of Islam (assuming it is)?
