What is your advice if somebody is asking for my hand in marriage but is a heavy smoker (while i follow the opinion it is haram) and i also have allergies to ash.. Should i still give it a chance and make dua he will stop?

Is it permisible to hide the reality but without lying. For example: my mother asks me what are you doing. And I say here I’m studying. In reality I’m memorising the quran (study islam) but she thinks I’m studying secular studies.Or she asks me where are you going. So I say to univeraity. But in reality Im going to meet a friend but she will think that I go to study.
