ANSWER:

If he knows he would be outnumbered or surely going to get killed or badly hurt then he should not plunge in and look for other ways to help the guy. One must save his own self first. 

What if a person wants to save another one’s life, however they know if they do, they will die in the process or kill themselves. Is this permissible or does this take the same ruling as suicide?
