ANSWER:

It is an issue of dispute among scholars whether it is authentic or not. Great Imams such as Imam Ahmed had graded it as weak.

Nevertheless, the scholars say that it is not a prohibition to fast it but rather a recommendation for those who may get weak and tired.

There is a Hadith that— Narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). He said, “The Prophet ﷺ said, “You shall not fast until half of the month of Sha’baan has passed,” [Sunan Abu Dawood, H / 2336; Jami At–Tirmidhi, H / 638; Sunan Ibn Majah, H / 1851].
