Mahr should be paid in money, gold or land, plot or anything material so that if you were to opt for khulu in the future, you can compensate him by returning to him what he had given.

There is a brother who has asked for my hand in marriage. I am considering to ask him to memorize a surah as part of my mahr or as a condition of marriage. He agreed. Am I allowed to do this? And if so do you have any suggestion of any surah. I’ve read Surah An-Noor, An-Nisa and Al-Maidah are surahs that were adviced to learn by the salaf in different occasions.
