The commandment was to all who was there. They were mostly angles but one of the Jinn was with them and he didn’t obey.

He didn’t justify not prostrating by saying you didn’t tell me to prostrate. He justified it by saying that he is better than this human as he was created of fire and we know that angles are created from light.

This means that he too was ordered but he disobeyed.

Somebody has asked a question to me and it is still wondering in my mind. He asked that it is mentioned in [Surah Al-Kahf 18:50] that:-“Behold! We said to the angels, “Bow down toAdam”: They bowed down except Iblis. He was one ofthe Jinns, and he broke the Command of hisLord. Will yethen take him and his progeny asprotectors rather than Me? And they areenemies toyou! Evil would be the exchange for the wrongdoers!”So, He asked when Allah (swt) ordered only angles to bow to Adam then why Allah said Iblis broken the commandment because he was a Jinn and the commandment was only for the angles?
