ANSWER:

No problem in having competitions if you have NOT paid anything to enter the competition, providing there are no other haram activities involved like music, free mixing between genders etc.

But if you paid an entry fee and then participate in any activity with the possibility of winning something, this is gambling. 

Sheikh is there any way a competition (other than horse riding, archery, camel racing) can be halal? Suppose having a sponsor, not taking registration fees or anything?
