ANSWER:

What your imam has said is correct.

It’s not mandatory to make sujood at tilawah even while praying. It’s a highly recommended sunnah.

Sheikh, I know that sujood at-tilawah is not mandatory while I am reciting Quran. I can skip if I wish. But if I am praying and one of the verses comes which has a sujood, local imam said that we can skip it, perform ruku & do regular sujood which will suffice. Please enlighten me about its validity & what can or can’t be done in this regard.
