The groom’s family has no right in dictating or controlling what the father gives to his daughter.

my question is in our country the bride father gives dowry to her daughter as so called “a gift “but now the groom side has starts saying that don’t give anything we already have you can give cash money instead of any other things. Is it allowed to do so and what is an Islamic ruling for this kind of marriage .
