Make a lot of Duaa for him in the preferred times and give out charity with the intention to cure him.

My father is on life support. He is not very well as he has had some complications following surgery. Please advise what I can do for my father from an islamic point of view. I have not been the best son especially recently. Please reply soon as I do not know how long my father has left to live.

 I sit with my parents, my father says nasty things about others and I stop him to the best of my ability, it does stop then it starts again then I stop him then he started again then I stopped him, for the 3rd he did it again I stood up to leave then he promised to stop. Did I do the right thing?
