There is an authentic hadeeth and I believe it is in Muslim where the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam says: shortening the Khutba and prolonging the prayer is a sign of the knowledge of the Imam.

I’ve heard from someone that there is some hadeeth which has the meaning like khateeb’s having long sermons than the friday prayers, or the wisdom of khateeb’s can be assessed his sermon is shorter than the friday prayer. i’ve also heard that practice of salf-ussualeheein was to have short friday sermon than the friday prayers, is it correct?
