As for the distribution, the recommended on is to divide it into 3 parts; one for charity, one as a gift and the other part is to be eaten.

I will be making the intention to do aqeeqah by slaughtering animals soon. I want to take my 9 year old step son to witness it but my wife finds it could scare him where as I find it will build him. Is there anything in Islam forbidding children from participating or watching this ritual? In Canada kids don’t get to see this and have no clue on the food chain.
