If someone is doing it as a form of worship and he claims that it gets him closer to Allah, it is bid’ah.

Is the practice of holding the breath from the beginning to the end of recitation of each verse of the Quraan something that was practised by the Prophet (peace be upon him) or his companions? If not, then is it a bidah?
