The hadeeth indicates that it’s totally prohibited to spit in the direction of qibla while a person is praying! If a person is not praying, it is permissible to spit in this direction though it is recommended to avoid it as some scholars say that even outside prayer, it is not permissible, though this is not the most authentic opinion.

Is spitting facing the Qiblah intentionally or unintentionally is taken as something bad?
