ANSWER:

No problem in using utensils that are plated with golden color and not real gold. 

The prohibition is in using real gold and silver vessels. 

 

Is it permitted to use gold-plated utensils? My mother gifted a dinner set that is made of glass but decorated with a strip of gold (not layered; just a strip)
