If she forgives her husband from the mahar, when she files for divorce, the husband may ask for some money but not for the mahar as he had received it. He may ask for some compensation. He shouldn’t ask for the gifts or for what he had spent on his wife but he may ask for something that the judge may agree to or disagree. If the wife has specific reasons that justify separation, the judge will force him to divorce without Khul’a.

Is it permissible for a woman to completely forgive her Mahar at the time of nikah, by her complete will? In that case, if later she takes Khulaa from her husband, how will she return the Mahar if she hadn’t taken anything?
