It is not mandatory but why did they get married on that night in the first place?

Is it compulsory for couples to get intimate on the first night of their nikkah?

A girl worries wether her nikah is valid or not. She was totally willing for the nikaah. At nikah day, her father went straight to the mosque where imam of mosque and groom’s family were present knowing that his daughter is 100% willing for nikah . He told everyone that his daughter approves of marriage. So the groom and the imam with boy’s witnesses signed the nikah papers. Later the father came home with witnesses and everyone formally asked the girl about her approval. She approved and signed. She now complains why noone asked her formally before the groom and his witnesses signed the papers. Does it make any difference sheikh?
